Why you need Vitamin C in your skin care, today!
Vitamin C is such a wonderous antioxidant, it plays an important role in the creation process of Collagen synthesis within the skin. Collagen lies in the Dermal layer of the skin and is the support structure and matrix that forms that scaffolding of the skin.
Vitamin C is naturally found in the skin, particularly the epidermis – the uppermost layer of the skin. It has been found that skins with extensive UV exposure have less than average amounts of residing Vitamin C levels in their skin. Skins that are deficient in Vitamin C can have poor wound healing, a thickening of the uppermost layers of the skin, and subcutaneous (under the skin) bleeding, similar in appearance to a bruise.
Vitamin C has the ability to neutralize and remove oxidants, such as those found in environmental pollutants and after exposure to UV. This process occurs particularly within the epidermis where Vitamin C is in the highest concentration.
It is extremely effective when combined with Vitamin E as Vitamin C has the ability to regenerate oxidized Vitamin E, effectively recycling Vitamin E which is an important free radical scavenger.
Vitamin C also has the ability to brighten the skin and lighten pigmentation spots with its role as a tyrosinase inhibitor.
We use Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate as our preferred choice of Vitamin C within the Skin Matrix Range. It is one of the most stable forms of Vitamin C and will not oxidize like is water-soluble counterpart Ascorbic Acid. It has 3 times better absorption into the skin than Ascorbic Acid and is not required in high doses – 25 times even lower than that of Ascorbic Acid to be just as, if not more effective. Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate achieves an excellent penetration within the skin cells and helps them fight against the harmful effects of UV radiation. Cells treated with Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate have a 30% better survival rate compared to pure vitamin C.
When compared to simple ascorbic acid, Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate caused a 50% increase in skin collagen synthesis. Moreover, it also causes a substantial decline in the activity of collagen-degrading enzymes.
