WHAT DOES A LIP OIL DO?

WHAT DOES A LIP OIL DO?

There are multiple reasons that we reach for a lip balm each day. Maybe you need a bit of extra hydration, a bit of a gloss/colour or perhaps your are needing to treat dry lips. Whatever your reason, we can not deny the fact that applying a lip product instantly feels amazing, it can almost become a little bit addictive! But do you ever feel that your lip balm is too heavy or sticky? Or perhaps you feel that you are reapplying it far too often… This is where a lip oil may become your new go to.

Lip oils are so versatile! Having a much lighter consistency to a balm, an oil will not feel sticky or heavy on your lips, and will gently soak into the delicate skin so that your hydration lasts longer. You can use it not only to treat, soothe and soften your lips, but you can also use your oil as a makeup prepping product or an overnight treatment. Some lip oils are pigmented, which will provide you with that little pop of colour to make your lips look plump, and will finish off your makeup look perfectly.

Lip oils are generally made from a high concentration of hydrating oils which are amazing at soothing and nourishing dry lips like Jojoba, rosehip, coconut oils and oat kernel oil. Lets look at a few of these in more detail

Rosehip oil

Rosehip oil has both hydrating and emollient properties that make it an ideal choice to prevent and heal chapped lips. It has a high concentration of fatty acids which helps reduce water loss in the skin by forming an occlusive barrier on the lips. Its high content in vitamin A also helps in exfoliating dry and dead skin cells

Jojoba oil

The waxy texture of Jojoba Oil will form a protective barrier over dry or chapped lips to lock in moisture and leave them feeling soft and smooth.

Avena Sativa Kernel Oil – ( Oat Kernel oil )

This oil is known for its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties and its oil helps protect the barrier function and provides phospholipids, ceramides and fatty acids, while also being rich in antioxidants. Oat oil helps to hydrate and protect the skin.

I have recently been fortunate to try the BRAND NEW Osmosis Superfood Lip oil. I was instantly in love! This beautiful product is packed full of superfoods, like kelp, oat kernel, green tea, and nourishing oils. It revitalizes, hydrates, and provides antioxidant protection, and creates the complete lip indulgent experience. Add some shine with clear or try plum for a splash of colour, this lip oil soaks your lips in hydration with a subtle scent of mint. Simply apply Superfood Lip Oil directly to the lips and then rub together to disperse product.

Keep your lips soft and kissable all year round, even in the colder, windy months.
