IS JANE IREDALE SPF WATERPROOF?
Coming into Spring and the warmer months, it's a good idea that we explore this topic of sun protection so you know what protection your Jane Iredale Make Up is offering. There are several products that are recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation for their protection from both UVA and UVB rays. These are:
These are chemical free sun protection products that contain the actives titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.
Jane Iredale sunscreen products pass the new Broad Spectrum testing which measures the amount of UVA protection in relation to a products UVB protection. In the past, a products effectiveness in terms of sunscreen protection was focused solely on protection from UVB rays. UVA does however contribute to skin cancer and premature skin ageing. As of 2012, the new term broad spectrum covers both UVA and UVB protection from the sun. So a product claiming to be a broad spectrum is essentially saying that the product provides UVA protection that is proportional to its UVB protection. Scientific data demonstrated that products that are "Broad Spectrum SPF 15 or higher" have been shown to reduce the risk of skin cancer and early skin aging when used with other sun protection measures, in addition to helping prevent sunburn. Other sun protection measures include limiting time in the sun and wearing protective clothing.
Jane iredale sunscreen products have been tested for their water resistency pursuant to the new final rule which only allows Water Resistance claims if the sunscreen remains effective for 40 or 80 minutes while swimming or sweating. The new testing techniques have resulted in a 40-minute designation for all of the jane iredale sunscreen products.
