I have been a culprit of using the same shade of blush time after time. I feel comfortable with my regular shade, as I know it works with my skin undertone. I admit even for us skin specialists who are surrounded by different make up shades, colour trends and colour palletes, it can be a little overwhelming choosing a blush colour. Unlike a make up shade, we can be a bit more flexible and creative when it comes to choosing a blush colour.
Here are some basic guidelines in choosing in your next blush:
FAIR SKIN:
Try blush shades that are soft pink, light coral and peach such as the jane iredale clearly pink, awake, cotton candy, whisper or copperwind. I personally love the freshness that Awake (pictured below) gives my cheeks.
MEDIUM SKIN:
Try blush shades that are rich pinks, warm mauves or deep peach such as barley rose, mocha, flawless, sheer honey. My favourite is barley rose (pictured below)!
OLIVE DARK/SKIN:
Try blush shades that are deep fuchsia, berry, warm brown, raisin and tangerine such as Mystique. Go for a cream blush for maximum impact whilst staying natural. The jane iredale in touch cream blush connection, chemistry and charisma will do just that.
My Favourite Blush Brushes:
Without a doubt the jane iredale dome brush is my daily go to for applying my blush. Easy to use and a flawless finish every time. For a softer blush application try the jane iredale white fan brush. Whisk across the cheeks for a feather light dusting of you favourite blush.
Simple Tip For Choosing The Right Blush For Your Skin Tone:
- For a natural look choose a blush with the same undertone as your skin.
- For a bold looking blush, pink one with the opposite undertone to your clients skin.
For eg: if you have a warm undertone, meaning your foundation has a yellow undertone, choose a warm blush for a natural look and a cool blush for a pop of colour.
Hope this has inspired you to try a new blush colour, I know I am ready to explore some new shades!
